The Akdeniz University Health Care Centre goes under the name ‘Mediko’, and offers primary health care services which are available to all Akdeniz University students.
All international students who are studying in Turkey will be permitted to register for General Health Insurance if they submit a written application to the provincial Directorate of Social Security, or Social Security centre, no more than three months after the date on which they register at the schools where they are studying.
Students who have registered for the first time after 29/5/2013 must submit their applications within three months of the date on which they first registered. General Health Insurance for these students will start on the date on which they submit their written application, and continue for one year after that date. The written application must be submitted to the provincial Directorate of Social Security, or to the Social Security Centre in the city where their place of study is located. Their application must include the student certificate which indicates the date of their first registration at the school where they are studying.
The size of the General Health Insurance premium will be determined as one third of the sublimit of daily earnings over a period of 30 days, estimated on the basis of the premium rate determined by the 82nd item of the relevant law for international students. (For the dates 1/7/2014 to 31/12/2014, the monthly premium will be 45.36 TL) Students must pay this premium annually as long as they continue their education. The amount to be paid will increase every year in January. Students are personally responsible for finding out the increase each year, and for paying the correct amount.
In order to be insured students must pay the General Health Insurance premium to the branches of Halk Bank, Ziraat Bank or Vakıf Bank which are located on the Akdeniz University campus. Students must identify themselves by showing their Foreigner Identification numbers to the bank official to pay the insurance premium. After paying the annual premium, General health Insurance process will be completed.
International Students who do not submit a written application for General Health Insurance no later than 3 months after their registration with the university will not be permitted to apply for General Health Insurance again during their period of study.
Students, who apply for the health insurance with their Foreigner Identification Number, can obtain treatment in University and State Hospitals providing that they have paid the premium correctly and on time. Students who are registered for General Health Insurance will not be required to pay any extra fees for medical services when attending University and State Hospitals. International students are therefore strongly recommended to register for General Health Insurance.
Students who are registered for General Health Insurance will be required to pay 20% of the cost of prescribed medication. Payments for medical devices such eye glasses will be determined in accordance with Health Care Application Instructions.
If students prefer to receive treatment at private hospitals, they will be required to pay the difference in price between standard hospital treatment and private hospital treatment. This will vary according to the hospital you attend. Students will be required to pay 20% of the cost of prescribed medication.
International students whose courses are paid for under the terms of Türkiye Scholarships will not be required to pay the General Health Insurance premium because they are insured directly through their scholarships.
